FRONTIERi Consult was contracted by Plan International Germany to develop a proposal on pathways for sustainable employment for women and youth in Ethiopia (PASEWAY). A Team of experts led by Dr. Sindu Kebede from FRONTIERi, based in the newly opened branch office in Berlin, Germany, developed the proposal in close collaboration with Plan International Ethiopia and local implementing partners (i.e., Selam Children’s Village and Ethiopian Center for Development). The main task of FRONTIERi was to develop a project proposal by assessing existing labor market situation, employment opportunities of youth, identifying potential sectors for employment and expected risks to implement the PASEWAY project.

The proposal was also developed with the aim to contribute to SDG 8 targets, which emphasizes on quality education, productive employment, and decent work for youth and women as the center of new development vision.

In the process of proposal development, FRONTIERi conducted key informant and in-depth interviews with relevant individuals and institutions as well as held stakeholders’ workshop, with technical and implementing partners, to brainstorm on the proposal ideas, develop activities that constitute the project, create awareness among stakeholders on the objectives, strategies, procedures of the project and obtain feedback to refine the proposal. A validation workshop was also held with Plan International Ethiopia and the implementing partners to present the proposed project with details on intervention design, targets and implementation sites, as well as to obtain feedback.

FRONTIERi is thrilled to have had the opportunity to work with Plan International Germany and Plan International Ethiopia in developing the proposal. Moreover, the joint collaboration was successful in securing funding from BMZ. FRONTIERi has no doubt in the fruitful implementation of the project and looks forward to the realization of the impact: Promoting Youth Economic Empowerment.
